If you don’t need a heavy innerspring mattress, or if you live alone, you won’t have to pay an extra fee for white glove delivery.

You can take advantage of a company offering it free of charge (Like Purple).

If they charge you the usual for delivery and setup, you can save your money and install the mattress yourself.

It’s simple and takes only a few moments.

Make sure you have someone to help carry the box in and to lift the mattress to position it properly.

Here are the steps.

Get The Box Inside

First, move the mattress into your bedroom. Most likely, you will need to have someone help you.

Although the mattress is compacted into a small box, it still weighs twice as much if it was spread out. It won’t be possible to lift it by yourself.

It is easy to get it in with the help of others.

The best thing about bed-in-a box mattresses is their ease of access to the house. Don’t worry if there are stairs or narrow doors. The box will pass easily.

Your foundation or box spring must be set up before you can use it. Set up your foundation or box spring first if you purchased a new mattress.

Unrolling The Mattress

Once you have the foundation in place, take the mattress out of its box and place it on the side.

To remove the mattress roll from the bed, open the box and take it out. You can also take the mattress off the ground and remove the box. Then, place the mattress roll unboxed on the bed.

You should have a mattress rolled up on one side of your bed.

Remove the plastic covering that keeps the mattress rolled up. You must be careful not to damage the mattress.

Place the mattress on the bed and roll it out until it is flat.

Remove any other plastic wrap around the mattress. This can be done by cutting along the headboard and pulling it out from the opposite end like a sock.

Notice:The mattress should not be left in its box for longer than three months. It can be permanently damaged by the pressure of keeping it tightly rolled up. Ask the company to schedule delivery if you are not home for 3 months. Most companies will do this.

Give It A Few Hours

Your mattress may appear thinner than the manufacturer specifies. This is normal and caused by the mattress compacting process.

The mattress will begin to puff up as soon as it is unrolled.

You can put your mattress on immediately if you wish, but it is best to allow the mattress to settle for a while.

Although it takes several days for it to fully expand, you can still sleep on it the first night.

Frequently Asked Questions About Setting Up A Bed-in A Box Mattress

What length can the mattress be left in the box for?

To avoid permanent deformation, most companies ask you to unbox your mattress within three months. Failure to remove the mattress from its packaging within the specified time frame can result in the cancellation of the warranty.

Do you smell something bad when you set up your new mattress? It is dangerous?

This is known as off-gassing, and it happens to all bed in a box mattresses. It isn’t harmful.

If the mattress feels very strong, you can leave it exposed (and ideally against a wall) for a few hours to let it air out in a well-ventilated room. This will allow it to air out.

However, most mattresses are very low in off-gassing so it disappears quickly.

What can I do with my old mattress

There are many things you can do with an old mattress if you don’t want to stay with it.

Check to see if the company offers mattress removal. White glove delivery companies often offer mattress removal for an additional charge.

They’ll take care of the mattress.

If the mattress is in good condition and free from critters, you can sell it or give it away. You can list it on eBay, or find a charity that will accept used mattresses.

Another option is to either take your mattress to a nearby recycling center or have it collected from you.

You can also dismantle the mattress and dispose of it yourself. This guide was created by a landlord who has done this many times.
